in food,Road to wherever,trip

Sorry for the late entry, baru hari ni aku mendapat kerajinan to write it. Tajuk macam sial, macamlah ada orang kesah akau makan apa kan haha. Tapi pegila mati, aku kan syok sendiri :P

Because I love to eat, there will be a special entry about food in Sri Lanka. Don’t worry there will be a special entry for shopping as well :P

Now, before I met bedmate, chicsinred adalah seorang yang hanya akan makan di restoran shaja whenever she travels. But now, apakah motif berjalan ke tempat orang kalau hanya makan di restaurant because I do believe the authentic local food yang sedap [if you are lucky] come from the street.

Hari ini episod makanan, nanti kalau aku rajin, episod buah pulak. Penting ni episod buah ni, masuk exam.Haha [mak aku suka perli macam ni kalau aku tengok tv ke apa]

Day One.

We headed to the nearest mall, Crescat to have lunch. I have no idea what to eat but we headed to the food court. And then I remember a Sri Lankan dish I ate back in KL, prepared by his ex Sri Lankan colleague which was similar to nasi lemak.

Lamprais.

I thought it was that dish but turned out it was not.

Lamprais—Sri Lankan dish of rice boiled in meat stock, and mixed with meat and vegetables. Rice is boiled in beef stock, then added to vegetables and meat and baked in a low oven after it is wrapped in a banana leaf. Baking the rice in a banana leaf gives a special flavour to the rice. Lamprais has a unique flavour and an appetizing aroma- Source.

The serving

The portion there is quite big, nak kata orang dia besar-besar tak jugak.

The portion

As expected, I did not finish my food.

How does it taste like? Well, macam nasi berempah and dia macam ada sort-of rendang sikit. Not too bad but I wish it was more pedas.

Then came dinner. Disebabkan malas nak keluar, we decided to just buy some food from the beach front nearby. Since it was a Sunday, the place was packed.

There were many gerai along the beach sampai tak tahu mana nak pilih. Jalan punya jalan I saw something that I like

Fried tapioca- thiny sliced or french fries look-a-like

I chose the longish ones, sprinkled with some spice and salt. It was about RM2.

Sangat setap! Sekelip mata dah habis.

Ketam and sotong

He wanted to eat ketam and I waten sotong. But I did not end up buying the sotong because that was not what I had in mind. I was thinking more like the bbq style.

The thing was, I thought they were ready to be eaten but no, they needed to be ‘cooked’ first. Di masak semula dengan segala spice.

Our dinner for that night

We bought 2 carbs [but they gave us extra 1], prawns and bbq-ed chicken [walaupun aku nampak macam tandoori je]. Everything cost around RM30.

The crab

The crab was so juicy and sweet but I didn’t quite like the gravy.

Udanggg

I didn’t like this at all, the gravy was too spiced.

So called-bbq chicken

This was the best! Sampai ke tulang rasa marinate dia. Esoknya beli lagi hehe

Second day

I went down for breakfast. Medium spread tapi something caught my eyes.

Egg hopper

A hopper, crisp on the outside, yet soft and spongy in the centre, is best eaten with curries and sambols while still streaming hot. There are many types of hoppers: plain hoppers, egg hoppers, milk milk hoppers, and sweeter varieties like vanduappa and paniappa.

Egg hoppers are made of the usual hopper where an egg is poached into its centre. Milk hoppers and honey hoppers too are delicacies enjoyed by both locals and foreigners -Source

I totally loved it, had it for breakfast every single day except for the last day. Last day aku makan pastried je banyak, apsal tah.

Lunch I ate hotel food some musroom in cream sauce and dinner we went to the beach front again.

Third day

I had sushi at this place call Nohinbanshi in Odel. Nothing interesting. Was given a choice [ok not given tapi yang aku nampak masa tula] between this restaurant and Delifrance.

Yang benci tu, tempat ni pack gila sampai kene duduk dekat counter :(. I had..oh well sushis and normal stufflah.

We went out for dinner at Majestic City’s food court. I ordered some pasta and it sucks. Rasa tomato sauce, boleh?

Fourth day.

Had lunch at an Indian Restaurant, his colleague recomended briyani tapi aku rasa briyani ayah aku lagi setap. Jadi, gagal.

Ahh dinner.

Now, before bedmate came here he has been hearing about this burger yang sangat setap called Burger’s King. Setapnya sampai ada one his colleague cakap, the burger that she ate from there adalah the best burger ever!

So that night we decided to get our hands on those yummy burgers. Sanggup jalan kaki nii daripada hotel. Gigih betul.

About 15 minutes later, we saw the sign.

The famous burger in Sri Lanka

Yang besar kedai je tapi kalau kau nak makan kene duduk dekat kaki lima, takdenye nak ekon ke apa macam dalam mcD.

But, adakah benar burgernya setap?

Sangat benar!

Well, that is according to bedmate sebab aku tak makan burger, I ordered grilled chicken instead.

Burger and chicken

I cannot remember exactly what he ordered tapi macam grilled chicken dalam burgerla. He was expecting something like chicken mcdeluxe tapi tengok-tengok macam ayam tandoori dalam burger. Nevertheless, it was yummy ok!

My chicken would be perfect if they had given me wings or drumstick. I asked for drumstick tapi dia bagi bahagian isi keras :(

But, see the sauce on my plate? Oh my God, adalah orgasma berganda ok! Same goes to the fries. In my opinion, fries mcd pon kalah.

Seriously.

Cannot exactly remember the price tapi ala-ala harga mcd jugak, maybe murah sikit je.

Oh btw, the EGB is Elephant Ginger Beer, cutekan nama dia? Rasa pon setap :)

Fifth day

I shopping last kopek [why the hell did they call it last kopek? macam last tetek terakhir ok!] lepas tu balik dah penat, malas nak jalan jauh-jauh tapi terliur bila teringat cucur udang yang aku selalu nampak dekat beachfront.

Maka dalam hari panas tu jugakkk aku pergi mengadap beach front carik cucur udang.

Tu dia cucur udangggg

I chose this guy because he looked trustworthy tapi aku rasa dia tak trustworthy sangat sebab dia charge aku 1 cucur udang adalah RM2. Cis, kau punya udang ada darah di raja ke apa nak charga aku memahal?

Tetapi.

Nasib baik the cucur were marvellous.

Setap tetapii...

Setap memang setap. Udangnya sangat besar dan crunchy and the batter adalah crunchy also. And the sauce and toppings[wah topping] adalah setap juga. Tetapiiii, besoknya aku ceret beret.

Most of the tourist that I’ve met told me they avoided the street food and was amaze with the fact yang aku berani nak makan street food dekat sini. Time tu akan macam, eleh, heroin je aku takde apa pon.

Tapi tula, orang riak selalu rugi seperti melepaskan anjing dan bayang-bayang [ walaupun aku tau tak kene tapi dulu aku suak dengar cerita ni]. Orang balik bawak souvenir aku balik bawak ceret-beret.

Dinner keluar lagi pegi beli saree. Masa ni belum sakit perut lagi. So eksyenla lagi nak makan pedas-pedas. Not reallyla just that aku dari hari pertama lagi teringin nak makan this one sri lankan famous dish – Khottu

Lamb Khottu

Kottu, or Kottu Roti is a Sri Lankan dish, made from a Sri Lankan type of bread called Godamba Roti, vegetables, egg, or meat, and various spices. A hot kottu is generally eaten as a dinner meal. The common varieties include beef, chicken, lamb as well as egg and vegetable Kothus available for vegetarians – source.

I ate this khottu at the most famous place for khottu called Pilawoos.

I told his colleague yang I want it to be pedas so she told the waiter

“Bla..bla..blaa.. deviled!”

Sini memanjang pedas or spicy semua nak panggil deviled. Dari ayam sampai ke hazelnut pon nak deviled.

Anyway, I didn’t quite like it, the lamb was fine cuma pedas dia pedas pepper yang kau rasa tekak kau terbakar. Plus the portion was so big. in the end tak habis.

After the dinner we went for clubbing.

Hehe.
