Remember my hunt for rose water or air mawar? I found it at the kedai mamak near my house. Punyelah sampai advertise dekat blog, rupanya-rupanya sekangkang kera je dari rumah aku ada jual benda itu. Ceh.
So, why do I need it you ask?
Aha, that is one of the ingredients in the after-so-long-aku-mencarik-dan-kempunan drink, air kathira! Yeeeeeeeeeee aku dah jumpa resepi air kathiraaaaaaaaaaa dan berjaya membuatnya ok!
Thanks to the owner of this fotopages. She’s a Singaporen hence made me believe that the recipe will turn out nice. I wanted to drop a comment to say thanks and that I tried her recipe but somehow I can’t seemed to find the comment publish button. So if one day she happens to read this entry, thank you ya!
Oh, anyway the recipe. I altered it a bit kerana aku adalah penamak.
Ingredients:
2 cups of sugar
9 cups of water
Screwpine leaves [daun pandan]
2 tablespoons of Kathira
15 pieces of kembang semangkuk [apala kembang semangkuk in english, walking dictionary aku tgh tido]
1 tablespoon of biji selasih [or telur katak, I used to call it :P]
1 tin of susu cair
2 tablespoons of rose water
Ehe before I start, I know some of you must be saying, what the fuck is kathirala wey? Mana nak dapat? I used to think mesti susah gila nak dapat kathira ni, tah mana-mana cerukla aku kene pegi, but I was wrong.
Just go to any senseh [chinese herbs shop ] and ask for “getah anggur”. The sinseh told me the chinese name of kathira tapi aku dah lupalah apa. Yang aku ingat shi something or something shi . Kalau shishi tu, kencingla pulak hehe.
It looks like kemenyan, if you ask me but here is a picture of it,also courtesy of the mentioned fotopages.
I know, the picture does not make sense tapi itulah dia lebih kurang. Dan gambar ini telah diperbesarkan.
So, we shall move to the cara-cara membuatnya okies?
Soak the kathira for one night [but I cheated, I soaked it only for 1/2 day aku tak saba!], extract the dirts, tapis. Rinse with plain water and tapis again. Same goes with the kembang semangkuk, repeat the same procedure and jangan lupa buang biji dia.
Kathira yang dah kembang
Kembang semangkuk
As for the biji selalsih, you still have to soak it but ithey only need few hours, sekejap ada. Bila dah kembang, rinse with plain water and tapis.
Biji selasih
Ok, for the syrup, boiled the sugar and 3 cups of water together along with the screwpine leaves. Agak-agak dah mendidih and the sugar is dissolve, turn off the fire, karang terbakarla pulak dapur.
Boiling.blubb..blubb..bubbles
Finally, add all the kathira, kembang semangkuk, biji selasih into the syrup bowl [take note, air ni banyak ok, so make sure sediakan bekas yang besar , aku pakai periuk, boleh?]. Then add susu cair , the remaining glasses of water [6 glasses] and the rose water.
Final result
Last but not least [ayat karangan skolah menengah] add some ice cube and enjoy! If you want to have sirap bandung kahtira instead, change the home-made syrup part with sirap rose.
I would say the taste is not bad although memang tak boleh lawanla air kathira JB, oh, I miss JB! Nak mee rebus, nak pisang goreng kicap cili, nak abc coklat, nakkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Extra note about the kathira, the senseh told me, it will cool your body and setahu aku kembang semangkuk pon sama. So now you knowlah kenapa bulan puasa, lepas letih and panas hati [hehe] best gile minum air kathira.
Maka ramadhan ini tak payahlah aku mengadu domba nak cari air kathira lagi.Tak perlulah aku nak berasa kecewa kerana air kathira yang ku beli rasa seperti ketiak arab [macam pernah minum air ketiak arabla kan eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek]
The point is, I am one happy bunny!
Like, yeayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
