Failure to sell
When I took LDP to go home I will have to stop at the traffic light going towards Giant sec 13 and I will saw this billboard of a girl dripping wet holding her hair, more likely twisting it and the advertisement says something like “Untuk rambut yang bersinar dan kuat”. Not exactly the same but you get the messagelah.
The thing is, bukankah bila rambut basah, tak kirela rambut kau karan ke hitam ke purple ke, they will look healthy, bersinar dan kuat? Dan apakah motifnya mengambil gambar gadis yang berbaju basah itu? Adakah bertujuan memberi kesempatan untuk stim sebarang minit dua semasa menunggu traffic light bertukar hijau?
That’s one.
Another one is the EURO cup advertisement from one of the telco company showing a guy who was in puzzle seeing everyone else had blue hair except for him which after that, audience we told a day before there’s some perjumpaan talking shit about the EURO stuff and suddenly there’s this huge air ballon or something in the air and ..and..ok fuck I don’t know what happened after that because it was totally tah hapa-hapa. But I am pretty sure you have seen this iklan before.
I mean, apa maksud kau demand nak EURO you have tu dye your head blue tiba-tiba? Habis kalau die minat team jersi oren, motifla pulakkan die nak dye rambut die biru. And what’s up with all the perjumpaan poyo and big air balloon. I can not comprehend ok.
Another one yang always bug me is this particular advertisement on the radio about someone who picks up his gf and then his friend on a date in his non-aircond car. Because his car got no air cond he was labeled as a loser but he got the last laugh sebab lepas tu dia akan ada can nak menang hadiah besar sebab dia isi minyak dekat satu stesyen minyak.
Like WTF tak pakai aircond ada kaitan dengan isi minyak? Setau akulakan, kalau kau tak pakai air cond, lagila save minyak. So bila save minyak, kurangla kau isi minyak hence the chances for you to win the big prizes are also slim.
There are lots of other advertisement yang susah aku nak terima dan faham.
Ok, you can blame me for not being creative , for not able to see outside the box[ I fucking hate this phrase] but hello, ads are targeted for audience and good ads should be delivered straight to the audience hearts, even the blur ones like me.
Example, I love one of the paint co ads yang cat dia tuka jadi some cute creatures dan mewarnai satu bandar. It is creative but at the same time it comprehendible and paling penting it works. And I am looking forward to see the iklan again. Totally cute!
There is nothing wrongla being creative. I worked with advertising company before, kadang-kadang these creative people terlalu berfikiran complex, terlalu memaksa diri to be different. I was once called “lament”[motif dia cap aku lament pon aku tak paham] for saying my mind and perhaps I don’t see the things the way they see it. Ok, maybe tapi like I said, not everyone can understand if you don’t present them with the creative rationale, and not everyone has the opportunity to view the rationale.
What I’m trying to say is, don’t try to hard to be so gung ho and trying to hard to impress because at the end, it’s not you who are going to see the ads and decide but it’s the audience.
Bukannya bila orang tengok or dengar iklan tu dia cakap “Ha? WTFlah?”
